Program Overview with Module Preparation

Below is a brief overview of each module and the materials students need to prepare in advance:

Module 1: Introduction to Cosmetology

Overview:

This module introduces students to the basics of cosmetology, including career paths, professionalism, and salon hygiene. It provides foundational knowledge to build upon in future modules.

Materials Needed in Advance:

• Notebook and pen for notes.

• Printed or digital program handbook.

• Personal grooming tools for hygiene demonstrations.

• Comfortable clothing for hands-on activities.

Module 2: Scalp and Hair Care

Overview:

Students will learn about the importance of scalp health, identifying scalp conditions, and performing basic shampooing and conditioning techniques.

Materials Needed in Advance:

• Mannequin head with hair.

• Shampoo and conditioner products.

• Combs, brushes, and towels.

• Apron or cape for practice sessions.

Module 3: Haircutting Foundations

Overview:

This module focuses on basic haircutting tools, terminology, and techniques, such as blunt cuts and layering.

Materials Needed in Advance:

• Haircutting shears and combs.

• Clippers with guards.

• Sectioning clips.

• Mannequin head with medium-length hair.

Module 4: Advanced Haircutting Techniques

Overview:

Building on foundational skills, students learn advanced techniques such as precision cuts, texturizing, and creative styles.

Materials Needed in Advance:

• Thinning shears and razors.

• Mannequin head with longer hair.

• Heat styling tools for finishing cuts (optional).

• Comb and clip set.

Module 5: Introduction to Hairstyling

Overview:

This module introduces students to hairstyling tools, blow-drying, curling, and creating simple styles.

• Blow dryer with attachments (concentrator and diffuser).

• Curling iron, flat iron.

• Styling products (heat protectants, hairsprays).

Module 6: Introduction to Braiding and Protective Styling

Overview:

Module 7: Introduction to Nails

Overview:

This module covers nail anatomy, basic manicure techniques, and polish and nail art application.

• Nail tools (clippers, files, buffers).

• Cuticle pusher and nippers.

• Practice fingers or mannequin hands.

• Nail polish, remover, and art tools (dotters, brushes).

Module 8: Introduction to Barbering

Overview:

Students learn the basics of barbering, including tapering, fading, and line-up techniques, as well as beard grooming.

Materials Needed in Advance:

• Clippers with guards.

• Trimmers and razors.

• Mannequin head with shorter hair or beard attachment.

• Sanitation supplies (disinfectants, clipper oil).

Module 9: Introduction to Makeup Application

Overview:

Students learn foundational makeup techniques, including skin prep, base application, and natural eyeshadow looks.

Materials Needed in Advance:

• Full makeup kit (foundation, concealer, eyeshadow, mascara, brushes).

• Beauty sponges and applicators.

• Mannequin head or practice face sheets.

Module 10: Advanced Makeup Techniques

Overview:

This module focuses on contouring, smokey eyes, lash application, and creating full glam looks.

Materials Needed in Advance:

• Advanced makeup products (contour and highlight kits, false lashes, bold palettes).

• Tweezers and lash glue.

• Mannequin head or live model.

Module 11: Professionalism and Business Basics

Overview:

This module teaches the fundamentals of professionalism, client relationships, salon management, and marketing for beauty professionals.

• Client consultation forms (provided by instructor).

• Resume template for career planning.
